The 10 Tips
1. Search, Don't Scan
With 100+ tabs, visual scanning is hopeless. Press Cmd+E to open TabMaster from any app. Type a keyword — TabMaster searches titles and URLs across Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Brave in real-time. Press Enter to jump straight to the tab.
2. Let Auto-Stash Handle Cleanup
Stop manually closing tabs. Enable TabMaster's auto-stash with a 30-minute cycle. Inactive tabs get stashed automatically — protected tabs (pinned, action-tagged, whitelisted, shield-grouped) stay put. Your tab count drops without you lifting a finger.
3. Tag Tabs Instead of Bookmarking
Bookmarks are a graveyard. Use Action Tabs instead — press a on any tab to tag it for follow-up with a text note. "Review after standup", "Needs tests", "Try Monday". Filter to action tabs to see your tab-based to-do list.
4. Pin Your Anchors
Pin your most critical tabs — dev server, Jira board, production monitoring. Shortcut: x. Pinned tabs are protected from stashing, always sort to the top, and survive browser restarts.
5. Group with Auto-Add Rules
Create a group for your current project with auto-add rules matching the domain patterns (github.com/your-org, localhost:3000, jira.atlassian.net). New tabs auto-sort into groups as you open them. No manual dragging.
6. Use Focus Filter to Eliminate Noise
Press f to toggle the focus filter. TabMaster hides everything except your criteria — a specific group, browser, domain, or window. Reduces 100 tabs to the 5 that matter right now.
7. Bulk-Select for Tab Bankruptcy
When things get out of hand: press Cmd+A to select all visible tabs, then right-click → Close. Or be selective — Cmd+Click individual tabs, Shift+Click to select a range. Process them all at once: group, move, close, or ungroup.
8. Preview Before You Switch
Enable CDP previews (Pro) to see a live screenshot of any tab before switching. No more "which of my 15 Stack Overflow tabs has the right answer?" Just hover or press p to preview.
9. Master the Keyboard Shortcuts
TabMaster has 40+ keyboard shortcuts — and they're all discoverable by pressing ?. Key ones:
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| `Cmd+E` | Open from anywhere |
| `/` | Focus search |
| `↑↓` | Navigate tabs |
| `Enter` | Focus selected tab |
| `w` | Close selected tab |
| `a` | Toggle action tab |
| `x` | Toggle pin |
| `g` | Cycle groups |
| `f` | Toggle focus filter |
| `Esc` | Dismiss / clear |
10. One App for All Browsers
Stop installing separate extensions in each browser. TabMaster is a single native macOS system-tray app that manages tabs across all four supported browsers. One shortcut, one interface, one set of groups and filters — regardless of which browser holds the tab.
Start with tips #1 and #2 — search and auto-stash. They'll cut your tab chaos in half immediately.
